Recognized for Outstanding Contributions to Clinical Trial Advancement and the Development of Indigenous Digital Clinical Trial Platforms in Korea

Dr. Dong Jin Yoo, Chief Executive Officer of SYMYOO Co., Ltd., has been awarded the Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation in recognition of his distinguished contributions to the advancement of clinical trials in Korea. The award was presented during the 2026 International Clinical Trials Day Commemorative Ceremony, held on May 20 at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) and jointly hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea National Enterprise for Clinical Trials (KoNECT).

International Clinical Trials Day commemorates the first modern clinical trial conducted on May 20, 1747, when British naval surgeon James Lind investigated treatments for scurvy among sailors during a sea voyage.

Throughout his career, Dr. Yoo has held executive leadership positions including Director at Bayer Korea, Senior Director at Dong-A Pharmaceutical and Dong-A PharmTech (now Mezzion), and Executive Vice President at Genexine, where he led clinical development programs and contributed to the successful development of numerous innovative medicines.

Since founding SYMYOO Co., Ltd., Dr. Yoo has overseen more than 250 domestic and international clinical trials. He has also provided expert consultation and scientific review for clinical trial protocols, clinical study reports, Common Technical Documents (CTDs), regulatory submissions, Risk Management Plans (RMPs), and other pharmacovigilance-related documentation, making significant contributions to improving the quality and scientific rigor of clinical research in Korea.

Dr. Yoo has also been instrumental in strengthening Korea’s digital clinical trial infrastructure. Under his leadership, SYMYOO’s research institute independently developed SYNeRA™ CTMS (Clinical Trial Management System), a fully integrated digital platform designed to manage end-to-end clinical trial operations. In addition, SYMYOO established its subsidiary DodLab to develop an indigenous pharmacovigilance management system, contributing to the localization and technological independence of Korea’s clinical research software industry.

Furthermore, through collaborations with academic institutions, SYMYOO has developed innovative technologies including Synthetic Data Generation Systems and Risk-Based Monitoring (RBM) Systems, supporting the continued digital transformation of clinical research.

Beyond his industry leadership, Dr. Yoo has made substantial contributions to education and academic activities. He served as an Adjunct Professor in the Advanced Pharmaceutical Medicine Program at Seoul National University College of Medicine, a reviewer for the Comprehensive Korean Dictionary at the Institute of Korean Culture of Korea University, and an Editorial Board Member of the newsletter of the Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology, helping disseminate knowledge in pharmaceutical development and clinical research.

Dr. Yoo currently serves as a Board Member of the Korea Clinical CRO Association (KCCA). He has also served on numerous national committees and professional organizations, including the Industry–Academia–Government Clinical Trial Council of the former Korea Food and Drug Administration, the Clinical Development Committee of the Korea Pharmaceutical and Bio-Pharma Manufacturers Association, the Planning Committee of the Korean Society for Pharmaceutical Medicine, and the Organizing Committee of the Fourth Asia-Pacific Conference on Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs, actively contributing to the advancement of Korea’s clinical trial ecosystem.
